I've been recommended to use kinesio taping on my back injury. has anyone used this or know of anyone who's used it?

  • My Physio put it on me after some ultrasound and electrical inference treatment I had for achilles tendonitis. It stretched from the back of my knee, over the calf muscles, the angry tendon and under my heel. Was applied twice, after treatment, kept it on for about 4 days each time. I don't know if it did any good, supposed to give you support; she was vague about describing exactly how it worked. Possibly snake oil. Achilles tendon is feeling a lot better, not necessarily because of the tape though.

Hi Lads, I'm from the US and used to do a lot of road racing. One of my mates races for Team Spidertech. Basically they are sponsored by a supplier of precut kinesio tape: http://cyclesportmanagement.com/

Anyway he gave me some precuts for my back because I was getting a lot of trouble. I don't know if it was mental or physical but they certainly helped! Since moving over here I struggled to find a UK supplier and then found this company via twitter: http://www.sporttape.co.uk

    Hope it helps!

Had my foot taped over 7 week period (5 days of 7) to cure plantar facitiis (sp?) - which it did - prevented underside of foot being overstretched - partly by its pysical presence and partly becuase it was mildly uncomfortable and 'reminded' me not to use foot in the wrong way, which meant that inflammatory process died down very quickly. Whether it would work for backs ? Perhaps if applied carefully, thoroughly - backs are more complex than feet I guess.
  • The actual Kinesio brand is also available in the UK at http://www.kinesiotaping.co.uk or through your physio. To find a distributor or practitioner in your area go to http://www.kinesiotaping.com.
  • Its works in a similar way to other bandages in that it gives the muscles/ligaments extra support. The difference being that when applied correctly it works in the direction of the specific area being targeted. So in biking thats why you often see if on riders legs either running along side the calf or quads.

Have only personally used it once before to help with a calf issue & was applied by a friend who is also sports trainer.

You could always check out http://www.youtube.com/user/TapeExpert for some expert advice in using, though if its for your back you may struggle on your own.

Hope it helps and your back to full fitness soon.
Pain hurts much less if its topped off with beating your mates to top of a climb.
