Kiel Canal

Looking for some advice on behalf of my parents who are looking to spend 3 or 4 days cycling along the Kiel Canal.

Anyone out there cycled the canal and if so have you any recommendations about places to stay, bike hire or general information about the area.

One of the problems they will have is if they are hiring bikes at one end what they would do with the bikes at the other end. Anyone know of any bike hire companies that have multiple locations or about a cycle tour company that might be able to organise some of the details for them. Their style of cycling is very slow and in general take it very easy and enjoy the scenery etc so it wouldnt be a fast paced type of event for them.

Any advice or help welcome.

My wifes family live in Kiel, so I know the region quite well. The trains in Germany are far more cycle friendly, so that may be a way to get bikes back to a starting point:

I haven't any direct experience of cycling on the Kiel Canal, but did come across this website that may prove useful.

    http://www.germany-tourism.de/cycling/cycling.htm

It appears to have good information on cycling friendly accommodation and rail travel with bikes. It will also be worthwhile visiting this site:

    http://www.adfc.de/

which is the German cycling club.

    Cheers
