I have replaced my truativ stylo chainset with a xt 770 hollowtech chainset and i followed the instructions and put a 2.5mm spacer on the drive side bottom bracket cup, then i put the crank in and it didn't line up with the front mech and the splines weren't through far enough to put the none drive crank arm on, so i took the spacer out and it all seems perfect[ i cannot test it properly as i am waiting for new wheels] i have looked on the park website and it says fit the spacer but this is for the 07 version, maybe the 08 version is different, so do i need the spacer in and do i have to adjust my front mech to suit, please help

what bike? what is the bb width? how may teeth did the old big ring have and the new one?

And yes you will normally need to reset the mech.
