Fantastic!! First British World Sprint Champion in 54 years (since Reg Harris if I heard it right). Well done Mr Hoy!

How long before some bright spark points out that he's not the fastest sprinter in the World after all because he didn't do it at the end of a 200km road stage.

    Almost 12 hours

I know its a great achievement, but I figure track racing is to road racing what 20-20 is to Test Cricket. I just see him as a body builder on a bike.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

What a fantastic achievement. A very specialist form of cycling not for the faint-hearted. My hero

Jill Douglas (BBC's presenter, who BTW I think is doing a really good job) is obviously a fan - a big hug and kiss after each win, that I haven't seen Bradley, Cav, Vicky, Rebecca Romero get...
I was only joking when I said
by rights you should be bludgeoned in your bed

She was on the 5Live show Fighting Talk once and the question was 'Who has the best body in sport?' and she dreamily enthused about Mr Hoy

I can't understand why some people see track cycling as a poor-mans sport. It's just as valid as any other cycling discipline. It's incredibly hard, eye-balls out for the entire event cycling... as opposed to road cycling where those who are not the main contenders for a win dawdle along like they're just out on a CTC run to the local cafe.. heh heh! I am even looking at BMX in a new light having seen the track and in some cases road form of those who have originally come from this discipline. Just because one's own experience or interest doesn't encompass a particular discipline or sport doesn't make that discipline any less valid. It's a rather narrow minded self-centric view of the world to assume that one's own experience or area of interest is the only one that's important or valid.

If you're someone who thinks that the longer the event the 'harder' and therefore more valid it is, then you must assume that ultra distance and audax is 'harder' or more valid in some way than a 100 mile or shorter distance road race.... I don't subscribe to this theory. They are just different.

Regarding Chris Hoy; it's those manly thighs - mmm! Schlurple!

I know that this is a wee bit tounge in cheek, but I spent an hour with Chris once and it turns out he did the Etape a couple of years back and managed the Alpe D'Huez climb in 1hr 10m....not Rasmussen I'll grant you but I'd say that with that and the multi-coloured jersey he's a cyclist...

What needs to be done to get Chris Hoy knighted? Dame Kelly Holmes wins two golds at the Olympics and gets one, he wins everything and gets...

...an MBE???? How is that fair?

Anyone know how one 'encourages' these things?

    Surely it's possible.
