I'm struggling getting my pinch bolt back home, the internal threads appear to have crossed right at the start which is proving a pain.

Any tips for a x-threaded inners?

It on an old LX rear brake caliper (cantilever)

    run a tap through it.

is it through hole? put a bolt in from the back to clear the threads.

  • not through no, it's an old LX cantilever arm - the pinch bolt screws into the point end into the body of the arm.

I haven't got access to a tap, is it something I can get a workshop to do for me? is it worth it?

Am engineering works should be able to to this in a few mins, take ther bolt with you so they can see the pitch ot the thread, think it'll be M6x1.0.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • ha ha! - all sorted!

the advantages of sharing a house with a car mechanic/all round engineering type - jsut had to mention tap and x'd thread and he was off...
