Can anyone identify this frame?

It has the number 39 embossed under the BB shell.

It has non fancy lugs.

It has Campagnolo drop outs.

No braze ons for mudguards.

It came with a Mavic group set and Record hubs. I have replaced the wheels with 700c as the others were 27" and had tight clearance.

I bought it a while back. The guy who sold it to me bought on the 'bay. He was a professor teaching and living in London. He was an American leaving England for mainland Europe. He was convinced it was a Colnago. I can't see any signs of it being one apart from the decals. I have a Colnago with 6 speed Chorus groupset 6 and the frame work is different.

Any info welcome.

I am sure someone will recognise the lugs.

I guess the spear-point seat stay tops are the best clue? But lots of un-identifiable frames out there!

No I have not touched . It's Mavic which looks like it needs specialist tools etc. I don't think it is a Colnago just wanted to know what it was.

I'm no betting man, but I'd put money on that not being a Colnago.

I'd expect lugs to include 'club' shaped cutouts, funny shaped tube, and it would say Colnago on the BB shell and on the top of the seat stays. Maybe.

It isn't a Colnago as far as I can tell. I have a Colnago which is different but from the same period. I just wanted to know what it could be? I am going to remove the decals As they are water slide on top of the paint work. They are in poor condition. It is actually a very good ridean I was thinking of the future if it ever needs a respray what to do about decals and head badge etc.

Looks a bit like an old Raleigh I had. Maybe something like a later model Raleigh Proffesional?

Yes it could well be a Raleigh. Thanks for that tip off. The Forks look a little older in the catalogue pic. The lugs look very similar. So do the stays. I have cable braze ons but perhaps this happened later in the production of the model. I am going to de badge it as soon as I get time as the decals are on top of the paint work and are quite brittle. Also I don't like the idea of fraudulent transfers. It has nicer geometry than most standard Raleighs I have seen and is quite light.
