Headset (CK) question

If anyone has been following this riveting discussion regarding Cane Creek, I found out they used to be called Dia Compe, and they make their own high end headsets, but have cheaper ones and some OE ones made out in the far east.0

BTW, can i split the race on a FSA Orbit XLII, it is a cartridge headset, and i want to be able to easily get it off my pike 454 in the future...0
-
The FSA does come with a aplit crown race.0
-
no it doesn't
it is here on my desk... definitely not split...0 -
Both mine have! And it says in the spec. Are you sure its the correct race and not off another fork?0
-
It is from merlin, so it could be OE, but they didn't say anything on their webby, but then it was cheap, like a budgie!
Worth complaining?0 -
Worth contacting them. OE spec can vary, but I cannot see ny reason why it doesnt have a split race.

Just before i contact them, the crown race will be part of the angled cup, ie on the bottom of the headset, and isn't the bronze split one that fits in the top to pre-load the bearings...
i've just checked, they are not interchangeable.0 -
Yep, they are different. The crown race is the very lowest part of the system.0
