  • You could try Hopwas Woods on the Lichfield Rd.
  • Cool, heard thats alright there, and ive also heard that you can get there from the canel - fazely canal i think?.....
  • yep, just follow the canel and it goes right along side the woods.

its only a very small wood though, have been told there is a really good single track trail in there some where, but when i went I didn't find it.

hey, i live in Burton just down the road.

Other than Cannock the only other good stuff i've ridden nearby is in the White Peak. Jacob's ladder and Doctor's gate are up there with the best :)
  • ohhh, where are these places?

I shall have to seek them out

http://www.mountainbikerides.co.uk/routes/index.htm covers some good routes. Jacob's Ladder is well known as being a really tough and technical climb. Good stuff!

i'm riding Ladybower resevoir and probably Win Hill on Sunday. yey! plus I get my Rocky Ridge back from the shop...

there are some good trails around Stanage Edge, but the end closest to Sheffield comes with a £500 penalty for being caught riding on it

To find anything technical locally, Hopwas woods and then Sutton park are the only rideable options.

Hopwas woods can be found here :

After the lichfield road, cross over at the bridge and go through 2 fields until you come to another bridge or at least what was a road. Turn left and I seem to recall that there's a cut that goes straight up ! I haven't been for a looong time, so my recall is a bit hazy, but it feels about right.

If you hear any banging going on, there'a a rifle range on the north side of the woods, although I'm sure it's probably safe if you go over that way :D

    Enjoy
  • There are Big poles with flashing lights on, when these are on that means they are using the firing range.

Although where you supposed to go then I dont know, maybe just stay still till its gone out!
