4X wheel sizes

Now I was having a deep think about 4X and stuff. Recently 29/26 wheel combinations on bikes such as the trek 69 combine both the smooth rolling of a 29inch wheel and the speed of a 26. Well my think was about whether because 4X requires a really quick acceleration you could use a 24inch wheel on the back but you could retain the handling of a 26inch?

    but having a 24" rear will make the handling slow.

    just use the wheels the bike was designed for.
