New rim needed for front wheel of fixed bike used for commuting.

Primarily needs to be strong for potholes / bad weather / falling over etc

Needs good braking surface for bad weather. I use only a front brake.

Light and fast would be nice too, but strength and durability are primary.

Any recommendations?

Or the ceramic version if you can run to the extra 50 quid!

    Thanks Dave.

But what does the extra £50 buy me?

Are they safer (ie better stopping power)?

or is it just that they last longer (if so how much longer - my current alu rims have lasted about a year of all weather commuting)?

I wouldn't bother on a TWO braked bike, but yes if running only a front then I THINK the extra stopping pwer and the longer life possibly worth while.

    Close call though.

I'd gather some more opinions if I were you!

I am sure the Open Sport is a perfectly adequate rim, indeed I have some of the predecessor, the MA3. However, you took the trouble to specify you need a strong rim. The Open Sport is a single eyelet rim. A double eylet rim is stronger. In Mavic that gives the Open Pro, or DRC do a very similar rim in the ST17. Or maybe you need a wider rim?

I agree. You can't go wrong with a Mavic rim. Try SJS they have a good selection.
