Hi,

I've just fitted my new Centaur Ultra Torque chainset to my Merlin.

It's very stiff and does not spin freely. Is this normal for a new installation and will it loosen up after a few miles?

Regards

Pete

Mine span beautifully from the start. Have you got the clip right on the right crank side? I would suggest taking it out and trying again. Don't ride it as you might damage it.

Yes, I put the clip in. I've also checked the Park site just to make sure I fitted it correctly.

I'm just about to take it off and start again.

Make sure the wave washer is in the correct side - it should be on the left (non chainset) side.
  • how did it go second time around?

    It was all my fault!

I took it off and refitted it and it span a lot better BUT..........

Some idiot hadn't cleaned his bike properly when he put it away last and the lower jockey wheel was stiff with dried on crud.

I'm sacking me and trying to convince the wife it's her turn to clean the bikes.

    Regards

I've only been married 30 ish years and she's never cleaned the bikes.

She took the car through a car wash about 15 years ago but never again.

    So..... I don't think I stand a chance.

What's the Ultra torque setup like? Did you get the carbon one?

How easy was it to install?

I'm going to get the new centaur groupset once my new frame and fork come (hopefully tomorrow).

    Hi,

Yes I got the carbon one from Ribble. It was easy to fit (except for the initial stiffness issue)

I was originally getting one off ebay for £110. I won the bid and paid for it but the guy never delivered. So don't trust a guy on ebay called Cycle-Eng.
