Currently looking at bikes for my girlfriend and we have found 2 that fit the bill. Can anyone explain to me the difference between 6061 T6 & 7005..and if one is significantly better than the other?
Thanks!
Thanks!

The 6XXX group is alloyed primarily with both Magnesium and Silicon to make a moderate strength alloy
The 7XXX group is alloyed primarily with Zinc to make a high strength alloy.
T6 - means that it has been solution heat treated and then artificially aged, without cold working0 -
More accurate description below:
6000-series is aluminum alloyed mainly with magnesium, and tends to be a bit more ductile (for instance, it would be more apt to wilt or buckle than to snap, compared to 7000-series).
7000-series aluminum is alloyed primarily with zinc. It tends to be harder and stronger but perhaps more brittle. Excellent material for chainrings due to its hardness, too.
Both materials can be found at the lower end and the upper end.
It depends more on the frame manufacturer as to the quality of design. Factors such as double butting, weld quality and tube shape come into play here and are being continually developed.0 -

so is 7000series better?0 -
As omegas was saying the frame design is much more important. At the £130 price range you are looking at saying they use 7000 series aluminium is nothing more than a marketing ploy so one bike sounds better than another. You are not going to notice any difference between 6000 and 7000.0
