Anyone down this part of the World?

Got some good routes from the roughrideguide (highly recommended! www.roughrideguide.co.uk - does SW and SE) but always keen to hear of more.

I'm near Truro - stunning countryside but needs more MTB tracks!
Two Stumpjumpers, a Rockhopper Disk and an old British Eagle.

Im not from the area but was down there earlier this year. Did a couple of routes from the book and can highly recommend them. The first was Princetown to Burrator loop and the second was the Postbridge loop. My first taste of Dartmoor and look forward to going back
  • Am in Truro area myself. Bit of a novice to be honest but like a pedal off road !

Idless woods always good crack. The more tracks you follow, the more you find. Pitty woods not bigger !

Few tracks off bissoe -scorrier trail.

Go in cycle shop in town or tourist info at city hall and pick up booklet on routes. If havnt found this yet, worth picking up. Some kind hearted enthusiast has written out by hand various routs mainly bridle way etc, around Truro area.

Just gor cheap set lights for bike, so hoping to try evening pedals.

Assay am bit novice so wary of meetin up with pedalers and holding them up. But who knows !

Hi, live 15 miles from Truro.

I picked up the 'booklet' from Clive Mitchell's. Not done much of these routes though.

I ride regularly (1-2 a week) - most recently St Day - Bissoe area, Idless & Dunmere woods (Bodmin).

Got lights last week, so well up for night rides, but without a bike for this week (in Certini as I bent the rear hanger)

Only returned to MTB 6 months ago, so still very much a newbie skill level.

If anyone is up for a ride you can email me on mark_photo(at)tiscali(dot)co(dot)uk

Either a route from the flyer that Clive Mitchell's hand out (never done any of these) or meet at Smokey Joe's and ride towards Bissoe & St Day.

Not worried which of these, just want to get out & ride. Which would you prefer?

There will be Myself (Mark) & Simon currently.

Was thinking about starting out around 8 or 8.30 am.

Officially - no you can't. However when there are no tourists about and as long as you are curteous to walkers etc, I have not heard of any problems.

  • Sorry all - Had a massive disaster (errrrmmm - lost a baby at 38 weeks) and been out of it for a while.
Back on the bike again and doing a daily ten miler with wife and been doing loads of Bissoe/Portreath cycle track exploration - Great fun!

  • Just found this forum.

Been riding in Cornwall for about 8 years now. Tehidy Woods near Camborne is ace, there's a lot of good stuff on the North Coast path and Chacewater area has lods of good stuff. Poldice Valley etc. Good stuff down Penzance Morrs way also. - ride with a guy who knows the moors backwards.

I live in St Austell and there are quite a few (short) trails around here - and Kings Wood is pretty good - if short.

I'm up for a ride although I can only grab about an hour or so a week as I house husband and my wife brings in most of the bacon!!!

I had a big crash a couple of years ago so don't go mental (don't do jumps any more!)- enjoy a good cross country ride

    Riko, Matteeboy

My back is feeling much better, did a 12 mile road ride tonight.

Couple of us are going out Wed night - looks like we'll be trying Idless in the dark

I can't ride this weekend as up in Manchester, but will be up for a ride next week / next weekend.

If anyone fancies a play in the woods on Wed night, we'll be getting there around 6.30. It should be quite gentle. Contact me if you want to meet.

Matteeboy, glad to hear things are getting better. Shall see you out on the trail very soon.

Soperman - I'm in St Columb. There are a couple of us that'll be very interested in a ride out on the Moors . . . . .

Been riding that a lot recently while wife rides her horse (a couple of miles away). Also been doing a regular 4.5 mile run along from Bissoe along it with the dog. Really knackering straight after our daily 10 mile cycle ride (like I did today)!

FSR - Sounds good. What sort of bike do you ride? I'm on a 2007 Stumpjumper. Okay at XC riding but a total gayer at downhill stuff after a massive splat a while back.

Well you'll fit in well tomorrow night.

I ride an 07 FSR XC Comp
    Other 2 going:
    07 Stumpy Expert
    07 Rockhopper Elite

Think there's a 'special' pattern here?

See you in car park around 6.30pm Wed?

BTW how you ride won't matter, it's what you can see that will . . . . .

  • FSR XC, I'll see what I can pull together re the Moors. Where are you riding tomorrow night?

I'm with matteeboy on riding style, okay cross country but wimp out on the drop stuff after my bad knock afew years ago.

BTW, I ride an old Marin susser (2000 East Peak) although am planning on a change over the next year. Specialized seems rather popular down here!

Ignore question in last post - after reading again can now see you're in Idless

Note to self - WAKE UP!!

Sorry guy's can't make wednesday night my one busy weekday night. However I'll be up for riding at the weekends and next week if anyone fancies it basically any night but wednesday
  • FSR - All from Clive Mitchell too?!
I also have a 1997 Stumpy. I think the frame, bars and rims are the only original parts left on it now! Still works fine though.

Will have to see about tomorrow but might be a bit unlikely - I only have puny lights and we are still at the "need to be together a lot" stage (apart from when wife horse rides but that's never for very long). A weekend ride might be the best option at some stage very soon.

    Have fun though!

Matteeboy - Mine and the Stumpy from Certini. Feel their service is a little better.

Soperman - I should have realised. How are you Andy? I was down talking to Neil today, Strangely I was thinking about you and if you were still doing work for them.. They are selling a few cars now. . . . . . that's confused you hasn't it?
If you haven't guessed yet - I used to have a Cannondale Delta V900.

I've PM'd you both my mobile. Txt me if you are going.

  • Hi Mark
Would never have guessed in a million years it was you - you must be a forum junkie.

Still talk to Neil quite regularly although am doing bits of other stuff now. How's the black car coming along?

Be up for a ride soon although don't really do nights. Early sat mornings best for me.

Not really a Forum Junkie - I go on 4 - Cars, cars, photography & here.
Reg on a couple of others but rarely look.

Marlin was started this week, interior is nearly all done and will have it all done so I can drive it to the shows next year.

Not doing this weekend, but often do an 8 - 8.30 run one w/e morning.
