Hi,

I've somehow let one of my friends convince me to do the Sarn Helen Coast to Coast off road bike ride to raise money for Velindre a cancer hospital in Wales. There's a small problem though, I don't have a bike!

I realise how difficult it will be and I've started training now ready for our week in May. I've got around £1,000 to spend on a bike, can anyone advise me for what I should be looking for and perhaps recommend a suitible bike?

Any help will be welcome!

Cheers

How big are you, both hight and weight also are you carrying all your own kit or do you have a support vehicle?
  • I'm 5'9" and about 11 and a half stone.

Carrying all our own kit unfortunately!!!

If you are carrying all your own kit, you are far better off loading the bike rather than yourself. Unless you are prepared to use a trailer, this then limits you to a hard-tail frame as it is all but impossible to mount carriers to a fully-suspended one.

That being the case, I'd be looking at a bike with a steel frame. Have a look at -
