i couldnt see a general section, so i thought id post here...

I have a hartke 2500 250 watt head with a 15 inch vx 115 cab, I am close to buying a 4x10 vx 10 off ebay, but I confused as apparently the cab is 8 ohms, I dont know what effect this will have on my amp, can you help?!

You will have to run your amp at 180watt instead of 250.

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.
  • 8 ohms is the impedance of the speaker in the cab. According to this website your head will deliver 250 watts into 4 ohms or 180 watts into 8 ohms.

So an 8 ohm speaker won't be as loud as a 4 ohm, though presumably it'll give a different tone quality which you may prefer. 8)

But if I run both cabs, (which are both 8 ohms) it should deliver 250 watts, yeah?
because i thought it was the ohms of one cab divided by the number of cabs? (if both cabs have the same ohm rating)

If you connect two 8 ohm speakers to the same amp* output (in parallel), you should get 250W split between them.

Why does "This Is Spinal Tap" come to mind..?

    *Edit: That's "amp-lifier" not "amp-erage".
