Just upgrading my Tektro cable discs to Shimano XT hydraulics.

The rear brake hose is too long. Stupid question I know but how do I go about shortening this and do I need any special parts, or tools?

Any help gratefully received, I obviously want to test them out ASAP!

shimano brakes come with all the kit you need and instructions. try reading them.

Changed my Tektro cable discs this week for Deore 535 hydraulics front and back.

Had to shorten both hoses. The easiest way to do it is to fit the lever and calliper complete as it comes out the box, try them to see if they work.

You should have a spare compression olive that come with the kit.

    • Remove the top from the reservoir fit the bleed tube to the calliper and run off some of the oil.
    • Unscrew the hose compression nut at the lever, pull tube out.
    • Cut with a Stanley knife to length.
    • Fit new compression olive and push new tube inner down the tube.
    • Push back in to lever and tighten.
    • Fill reservoir and bleed until you have all the air out.

Basically I think it is easiest to shorten it at the lever end with everything in position.

Here is the link showing the instructions you should of got in the box.
