Rear mech cable tension

Hi

I'm going to struggle describing this but here goes anyway...

A while ago I noticed a device that fits behind the rear mech and cable adjuster that looks like some kind of cable guide with a jockey wheel that (I think) is either an alternative to the adjuster bolt or works to enhance the fine tuning of the tension somehow?

I don't know what they are and I cna't seem to find them anywhere...

excuse the crude illustration but they look a bit like this...

Anyone any ideas what they do?

    avid roll a jig?

    to remove the big loop of cable on a shimano mech.

    even if you said i have a funny wheely/coggy thing on the back of my mech i would have guessed.

    but then again one of the old XTR mechs had something similar built in!

    I don't suppose you know where I can source one do you...

    I see that image is from Wiggle... but I can't seem to find it on their stockllist?

    there's a few on ebay... but rare as rocking horse sh1t otherwise... I think the noodles the way to go...

    Hi baccaman2, How about a 2008 XT Rear Mech? the cable pathway looks a lot straighter. Costs quite a bit more though.

    Although I hate to say it... Cost is an issue

    maybe when I get a job I can think about that kind of upgrade... but as it is... cheap mods for me... :)

    No worries matey, I hope you can get it sorted. Thinking about it, I'm sure you'll sort it better than my usual 'throw cash at the prob till it goes away' routine :)
