Sweeet. I'll ride up to Crawfordjohn for a gander and then I might try and catch it go through Glespin, if I'm quick enough.

I think I may go down to Somerset and watch them struggle up Porlock Hill. Should be fun.

Yeah the Somerset stage should be fun, don't think I'd fancy riding up Porlock Hill.

The stages to Wolverhampton and Kendal should be pretty good too - the first is up and down all day, and the second's got a great last few kilometres with those climbs after Kirby Lonsdale 8)
  • Unfortunately TOB didn't manage to organise a sportive this year. Does anyone know how the plans are going for next year?

Er, they are leaving it a bit late to set up aren't they?

4 weeks to go and the info website isn't online yet.

I guess there is no reason why a small group of riders shouldn't ride the Stage 1 route the day before ?

We're not expecting road closures or a motorcycle escort !

There are support races for juniors, women and 3rd cats right before the Prologue in Crystal Palace.

Actually, I was thinking of the Stage 1 proper, Reading to Southampton, rather than the prologue.

I know, but I thought it would be nice to race the course, albeit in a different format, immediately before the pros and then watch them do it properly!

didnt the milk race go up there a while back?

I am off to the New Forest so see you there
  • I shall be on the Reading to Southampton stage - hopefully nearer Southampton - as my wife and I have volunteered as marshalls. Not sure we will see as much as we possibly could have - but wanted to show our support for the event.

I see noggincp is also marshalling - anyone else volunteered? and if you have - heard anything back from the organisers yet?

  • Disappointed there are no stages in Wales...Tour of Parts of Britain... :(

I have photos of Sean Kelly, Phil Anderson, Johan Bruyneel, (the year Anderson won it) in the Kellogs Tour climbing the Tumble in the big ring chatting away....
  • It's all to do with Regional Development Agencies, so if you want to see the race in Wales then start pestering local authorities, towns, cities, RDAs etc. The more pressure put on them, then the more likely they are to try and get a stage of the race.

    post the pictures!

    they sound great.

when i saw the stage details for somerset i thought they might have to climb up lynton/lynmouth hill, which is staggeringly steep.

the 8km climb up to porlock should give them something to chew on though.

  • See they've announced the first four of the teams riding this year's race

Wonder who'll be in the GB squad? And getting Tinkoff is quite 8)

Which teams are going to be riding this year.

I remember there was lots of hype in July last year about CSC, Quick Step and Boonen riding.

Does this mean they have no big international teams or names this year?
  • CSC look like the only protour team taking part, wonder who they will bring? Rabobank are bringing their continental team. Skil-Shimano and Agritubel the pick of the other teams coming from the continent also announced.

I'll be there watching the final stage somewhere!

    No T-Mobile?

That's a bit of a surprise, given how prominent they were last year... maybe they'll be announced later
  • Agritubel, Barloworld, Chocolade Jacques - Topsport Vlaanderen, DFL - Cyclingnews - Litespeed, Duja - Tavira, Fuerteventura - Canarias, Navigators Insurance Cycling Team, Plowman Craven - Evans Cycles Racing, Rabobank (Continental), Recycling.co.uk, Skil - Shimano, South Australia.com - AIS, Team CSC, Team Great Britain, Team Konica Minolta, Tinkoff Credit Systems

    from this very site.

It is strange about T-Mobile - particularly with the hype surrounding Cavendish these days.

Cav could be riding with Team GB I guess.

Maybe T-Mobile are feeling a bit burned from cycling ? They where a big prescence at the ToB last year, both with the team and promotional staff giving out freebies.

BBC Sport understands Team GB is in talks with David Millar and Geraint Thomas about them being in the line-up.

Tour of Britain clashes with the Vuelta, I'd have though Millar would have been good for a stage in that with the form he's got.
    Winner: PTP Vuelta 2007
  • Depends, if Saunier don't give Millar a Vuelta ride as he is going to Slipstream next year iIthink it would be quite likely he'd agree to it. Show off his new National Champs jersey. If he did ride could he go for the overall? I'd like to see him try, esp as in his procycling interview a few issues back he said he'd like to challenge in shorter stage races. Having said all this I still think he'll ride the Vuelta.

the teams could be better... :?

but still, that Tinkoff team contains Tyler Hamilton, and i'd think there is a good chance he would ride in it since he wont be in the Vuelta or in the Tour de Pologne (protour).
  • I don't think Tyler will be riding, unless he has settled his dispute with Tinkoff. This is from his website entry in July..

"As many of you are probably aware, I have not raced since April. I have been very disappointed to not be able to compete over the last nearly three months. On May 3rd, I was asked to agree to a new contract with very different financial terms than my existing contract. Since I did not think this was fair, I did not agree. As each race on the schedule has come and gone, I have been offered the same condition - agree to the new terms or not be added to the start list. Because I believe that my existing contract is valid and should be honored, I have filed papers with a court in Rome to ask for a judgement that would support my stance. My argument is scheduled to be heard later this month. I'm looking forward to resolution in this matter and returning to racing as planned."

Don't think he'll be there somehow. Unless of course i've missed something and this is indeed all settled.
  • Nah I severely doubt Hamilton would get to the start line. I think his career (at least with Tinkoff) is dead and buried. Didn't Oleg Tinkov give an interview a couple of weeks ago saying he didn't want anything to do with any of the dopers he'd previously employed.

Tinkoff will be good - They'll bring some young hungry Russian guys who aren't afraid to attack.
