MTB slick choice

I'm considering getting a set of slicks in the next couple of weeks to speed up my ride (currently on summer weight knobblies). Wiggle have a good price on the Schwalbe City Jet (http://www.wiggle.co.uk/ProductDetail.aspx?Cat=cycle&ProdID=5300003751&N=Schwalbe%20City%20Jet%20Tyre%20Set) for £23.99 for two tyres and two tubes. Good deal?

    Good tyres but also consider Continental Sport Contacts. Admittedly a bit more expensive but a great fast rolling tyre.

    Slicks will make a world of difference to your MTB

    Anyone know what the difference between "Black" and "Skinwall" are on that page? The Schwalbe site is remarkably light on info.

    I've got the geax street runner 1.25s and they're £19.99 a pair inc tubes and I've found them great so far.

    Ive just got some Schwalbe Marathon Plus in a 26 x 1.35...super slim

    Got some Schwalbe Marathon Supremes cheap(er) from an Ebay.de seller and very impressed. After 3 months of almost weekly punctures commuting to West End from Lewisham on Conti Contacts I've had 2 months of near silent and most importantly puncture-free riding. I think I actually have got what I paid for.

    I use 1.5 specialized nimbus for road duties on my mtb. Think I paid £15 for the pair if my memory serves me correctly, fast rolling, no puncture problems

    Another vote for the Sports Contacts. I got mine on eBay for 25 quid the pair including inner tubes. Makes a big difference to using the knobblies.

    Specialized Nimbus Armadillos. Rolling restistance pretty good, grip excellent and tough against p*******s.

    I use 26 x 1.5" City Jet tyres for riding to work on my mtb. I bought a pair from this chap on Fleabay, £16 inc. postage for a pair.

    They may not be as speedy as some but were dirt cheap and seem to roll pretty well. The profile is quite steep so they bank over nicely on corners :) I value the puncture resistance thing, there's lots of glass on my commute, which seemed to have a curious attraction to my old City Runners.

    Weekly punctures on conti contacts? Was that conti sport contacts? As i am just about to buy a pair but won't if it means punctures.

    ^ thinking about it I was moving away from using the Bloomsbury cycle paths up from Cov Garden and just bombing up and down Gower St and Tottenham Court Road around the same time.

    Those paths just accumulate all kinds of shite.

    I've just ordered a pair of Continental Double Fighters as I want better road rideability, but still want to be able to hit some trails without having to change wheels each time.

    I'm on my second set of Specialized Fatboy tyres and really like them. 1.25 i think, they seem very puncture resistant and despite the complete lack of tread are fine in the rain.

    Got Vittoria Randonneurs on my mtb - look like they have some good surfaced trails use, but not mud or heavy loose conditions.

    They are black and round what else do you need :?

    No seriously, an MTB ain't any tarmac chewer, and as a Roadie, I notice a massive performance drop using the mtb for work.....

    On the road bikes I use Michelin Pro Race 2's which are really good like the Conti GP4000's

    I recommend Specialized All Condition Pro's - they have dual compound rubber, 120tpi, totally puncture-proof in my experience, good grip, fast, tough. Schwalbe City Jets are cheap and tough if you want something fatter. I have used Conti Contact Sports and concur that they are rubbish for wear and punctures - despite the guarantee.

    I have Specialized All-conditions (not Pro's) on my Sirrus...maybe I've just been unlucky, but I've had a few punctures on them.
    It could be that the 'pro' tyres are a superior quality.

    I'm with alfablue on this one - the Specialized AC Pros are great for road commute and have never had any puncture issues. They also don't seem to be wearing out at all. And being so skinny, speed shot up from standard mudplugging jobs.

    I ride with a pair of2.2" DMR Moto tyres clicky, on my bike; they're relatively quick, despite not really being slicks but give a good amount of comfort & puncture resistance (until I forget that 99 kilo 36 year-old me doesn't land as lightly as 70 kilo 21 year-old me used to :wink: )

    I have Michelin Rock (now called Michelin Country Rock) and am finding them sluggish. Will Schwalbe City Jet be quicker than these?

    I have used them and they seem good, but can't compare with the Michelins. I now use Specialized All Conditions Pro's, which are narrower (1.00), have a kevlar bead, and are very light and fast yet puncture-proof.
