Hi folks. Been biking for about 3 months now and I'm looking for my first bike. Mainly into xc but also a little downhill. looking for a general good all rounder.

Looking at the following bikes at the moment:

GT Avalanche Expert 2006 (sale price £599)
Carrera Fury (sale price £449)

Budget £500 - £600

I'd appreciate some advice on the suitability of the above bikes and any other bikes that are worth looking at in this price range.
Are the above prices competitive?
Also, I've been told to avoid full suspension at this price range. Is this correct?

You can knock another £45 off the Fury (and 10% off any more accessories) with the 10% voucher on Kellogs Cornflakes (Look for the cyclometer offer on the front, the voucher is on the side.)

06 Avalanche Expert is a great bike, if you can still get one in the size you want

Tis true.....two good bikes, both at the right-ish price.

See which one feels the best and purchase quickly, before the doubt gremlins get into your head.

    Jacko,

I can vouch for the Expert. Tough bike, great spec on the whole, and nice looking in the 2006 colours. You won't be dissappointed, but you may struggle with sizes other than XL or Small. First thing to do is whip off the Tioga rear tyre though - it's too chunky for the frame.

I think that the offer on the Fury ends today. so get in and place a deposit down if you want to save that £50. But Kellogs FTW!
