Can anyone find a better sub £400 bike better than this?

I'm trying to find my mate his first proper mountain bike. After loads of arguing I've convinced him that with his £400 budget he should stick to a hardtail. Can anyone find a better deal than this? oh there's a catch..... It must have hydraulic disk brakes!

I've tried to persuade him that £500 would gave him much more options but he's adamant that £400 is his maximum.
I'd be grateful of any suggestions.

If its his first proper MTB, then you need to find a local shop and test it for size and suitability, plus easy after sales care. The Mongoose Tyax Elite and Gt Avalanche 2.0 disc are 400 or less, have twin piston hydro discs, damped forks and are simply a better bike than the CB.0
