Crank removal - help!

Bugger....
I'm trying to remove my drive-side crank. I've totally stripped the thread on the crank, hence I can't get the crank extractor tool to grip.

Any suggestions?

PS - I've tried hammering on the crank to knock it off and my hammer isn't big enough to shift it.

    remove bolt and go for a short ride. if square taper you will most likly damage the cranks beyond use but i guess you will be replacing them any way.

    if that does not work it is saw time.

    Either go to an auto shop or to an equipment rental shop and borrow or rent a "brake fork" (at least that's what it's called over here in the colonies) It's a wedge with a handle and gap running down the middle. The wedge should fit between your bottom bracket shell and the crank with your bottom bracket spindle in the gap. Tap the handle with your hammer and you should be able to wedge your crank off.

    The cranks are buggered beyond redemption, so I might go for the short ride option. Oh no, the pub is a short ride away. What terrible synchronicity... 8)

    if it does not work the "ball joint" splitter "fork" type is an option but it can bugger up the bb shell.

    hacksaw or angle gringer through the alloy arm on one side just untill the axel is reached. then it will drop off with a gentle tap.

    Used a tyre lever and rubber mallet.. Job done

    The short ride didn't shift it. I could go for a longer one and carry spare crank, tools etc but I can't be arsed. I think a ride to the LBS tomorrow is in order...

    Yeah - small ball joint splitter or a 2 arm 'gear puller' which has a couple of arms which hook over the spider and your wind in the centre bolt to pull if off - available from auto/accessory stores. You can get 3-arm pullers, but because of the shape of the spider, it's difficult to engage.
    Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

    I've been truffling about for a replacement crank.
    I need 130pcd, 170m and square taper. There aint many about. I can find a Stronglight crank for £68 from HubJub or the same set for £52 from <drumroll and ominous chords> Ribble.

    Give Spa Cycles a ring, they're Stronglight specialists and they usually have more stock than what's on the website.
