Nor your husband.

WTF could he not leave with a drink-up, a whip round for a pressie and a snog with whoever you furtively fancied at the office, like the rest of us!

when did it become normal for a prime minister (incoming or outgoing) to take their spouse to the Palace to meet the Monarch?

When I last handed in my notice and quit the job my wife stayed at home and had a bottle of wine waiting for me.

she's a snotty old munter is cherie - she's quick to use the press for her own ends when championing human rights at the legal aid funded taxpayers expense, or use the press to makesobbing apologies for 'interesting' property dealings, yet has the gall to moan when the press gt into her for something over which she has no control.

and did i mention that she has a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp?

  • Cherie could never win. The tabloid press will make you look a fool or whatever they want to make you look whatever you do. She is the victim of rampant sexism because failed to play the part of the dutiful little wife who kept in her husband's shadow, always dressed immaculately and kept her mouth shut.

A lot of the reason behind the hatered expressed against Mrs T was because she was female. The intelligensia only believe in equality when it is on their terms and the downtrodden know their place.

Well said smoking. How Cherie looks is no business of anyone elses. Blair presumably likes her appearance, she can't change the way she looks, and why should she anyway.

The endorsers views in that area are pretty stupid and not a little offensive. Certainly, attack her for political errors or stupidity of judgement, that is fair game. But leave the other shyte to the specialists like the Sun/Mail/ or some other gutter dreg.

I think she's achieved a tremendous amount - to bring up 4 or 5 kids, and also be a top lawyer, whilst being the PMs wife takes some doing.

Who was that weird but good-looking alternative therapist woman that was a little too close to the Cherie Blair for comfort? All too much scented candles, mood swings and property deals for my liking.

I always found it strange that Cherie never became the joke that Thatcher's husband became. I put it down to sexism - a wife of an important man is deemed important, the husband of an immportant woman isn't.

Cherie is really an old fashioned woman. She thinks that just because she is married to an important man that she is important too. Oh dear.

Just the thought of it has put me right off my breakfast.

She did want to be PM once, and she did make it to number 10.
She stood at one election in 1983, so things could have turned out differently if she had been elected then.

and Tony B Liar increased his involvement in politics to impress her!!
so she has to take all the blame for the last 10 years.

In what way is she old fashioned? I suspect many deem her to be important because she has risen to near the top of her profession, and you could argue with some justification that she was prevented from rising further due to her family and public commitments as wife of the PM.

As I recall she was, and remains a top lawyer in London. I'd have thought earning œ300k was enough to qualify her as having put in plenty of hard work, and is blatantly intelligent and sufficiently "important" already. No idea how you can class a very successful career woman as old fashioned.....

  • Well, she might get paid œ300,000 a year; could she really be said to have earned it?

Her reputation as a 'top lawyer' is spin. I've seen her in action and she's not that much cop - I could name a dozen females lawyers who are better than her.

That's odd. I thought she was a QC. Would seem to be a pretty good definiton of a "top lawyer" to me.

Being a QC doesn't mean anything. Cherie got it in the days when it was in the 'gift' of the Lord Chancellor - who just happened to be an ex-flatmate of he husband the Prime Minister.

Ah right, so she's only successful because of her connections. It didn't take long before someone trotted that one out. Listen, if you don't like her that's fine, but trying to make out that professionally she is no good simply isn't going to work.

No - I wasn't pointing out that being a QC doesn't mean that you're automatically good.

From my professional point of view, as somebody who deals with a large number of barristers (including many QCs), Cherie is not that brilliant.

Fing woman, good riddance! Won't miss that misshapen mouth and angst look on her face whenever she's got a camera pushed in it.

Ah yes a very valid comparison - ruthless facist dictator and QC specialising in human rights.

Not a natural defender of la Booth but she took silk in 1995 when Lord Mackie of Clashfern was LC. And while the terms of competition may have been obscure it was exactly that - not (excepting certain honorary awards) something you got as a result of "position"

Right, so it was corruption then.

Ask yourself this: if the situation were reversed - that she were the PM and Tony Blair a lawyer, would the press be constantly running articles on him being fat, his hairstyle, his teeth etc etc? Of course not - it's just blatant sexism from people who would rather she just stayed home and baked cakes. I remember the time their kid was arrested for being drunk - apparantly this was her fault for having gone on holiday and abandoning him.
