cost to strip and repaint steel frame ?

Been offered a couple of old steel frames that would need a repaint, anybody a rough idea of cost ?

    Around œ50 per frame - that's what I pay at Vaz's in London. I think that's fairly standard.

    Colin, any idea what youre going to paint them with, powdercoat, cellulose etc etc. i'm in the same position, and dont know which way to go.
    Currently stripped the forks with Nitromoors and a wire brush...quite effective. Start the frame this next week.

    Powder coating costs from about œ30. Very tough finish - great for runaround bikes.

    Have a look in the motorcycle press - there are always adverts for powder coating etc. You might get a better price that way.

    Anyone had a re-spray done by someone based in the west midlands ?

    My friendly local powder coater will shot blast and coat a frame for about œ30. The result is as tough as old boots.

    I've used Bettablast up this way (Shields) who blast & powder coat for œ30, but do you know of a firm up here that will strip and spray a frame?

    M Steele cycles used to, but now I think they send frames off to Bob Jackson cycles. Sounds expensive. I've only ever used Bettablast.

    give birmimngham city cycles a ring on 0121 666 6045, they've used a firm on Bradford street, who do car work as well.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I'm torn between taking it to Mercian or Brian Rourke; or to a cheaper local car sprayer.

    The frame isn't anything special (Carlton with Tru-Wel tubing from '82) but it fits me like a glove. If i take it Mercian I'm worried I'll go a bit overboard with barber's polls, lug lining and what not !
