New shoe recommendations

My Sidi Genius 2 shoes have served me well over the last 13 years or so and were my first and only pair of cycling shoes. After taking them to the LBS for a bit of a spruce up ie new straps, cleats, heel studs, etc. I don't think I can restore them to their former glory[:D] and the heel is wearing away when I walk in them.

I'm looking for recommendations for purchasing a new pair so should I stick to the Sidi range (whatever model they have now) as I did like this pair or are there newer and better alternatives out there?

No rush to buy now but any recommendations as to what is a good shoe would be appreciated. Cost, whilst always important, is not a major factor - equally important is comfort and fit, availability of replacement components and an ability to take a Look cleat.

Specialized S-Works Road are lovely. I've had mine a few weeks now and can't find anything I don't like ab out them.

For long-lasting, comfortable shoes Sidis are probably still one of the best. With many makes, they change them so often that the chances of getting spares should you loose a buckle or strap in a few years is pretty remote whereas Sidi keep them pretty common for a few years.

I second specialized shoes, I own comp carbon and they are the best shoes i've used.

I'm going through exactly the same process at the moment after trashing my Sidi's in a crash a few weeks back. I've looked at most makes including Spesh, DMT and Diadora to name a few. Nearly, nearly bought some Diadora Ergo's the other day that were on offer but in the end - after much deliberation - I decided against them because they were a touch too narrow.

I reckon in the end I'll stick with Sidi - probably Genius 5 - because I can get them in the Mega size for my wide feet and the spares are readily available. Trouble is, at nearly $400, I going to be blowing the budget - big style. Oh well, I suppose you get what you pay for. [:D]

I've become a Sidi convert recently. If yours have performed so well why think of anything else? My feet have never felt as good in any other make.

Another vote for the Spesh S-Works road shoe. I used Sidi previously, and now would not go back.

If you like Sidi probably a good idea to stick with them if your feet like them.
I've just ordered a pair of these this morning - most shops over here selling them between œ145-œ175.

I have a pear of Shimano R085's, not the most expensive but very comfy.
I also have a pair of Specialized BG MTB shoes, which are also very comfy, maybe a little more so, but they only come in black and I wanted white ones!!

I had a pair of Sidi MTB shoes and they lasted years, I wouldn't recommend anything else for off-road riding. For road shoes, I was going to get Sidi's but I ended up with some heavily discounted Northwaves. Despite how good they are, once they need replacing, I will get a new pair of Sidi's.

For starters, I think I'll start by looking at the Sidi Genius and the Specialized. Does having a carbon sole make any/much difference and is the price difference worth paying to get the carbon variety?

I tried to buy some Sonomas today. Edinburgh Bikes are having a 15% sale in Leeds this week, so planned to make the most of it. Needed a floor pump and some glasses, and girlf needed a helmet so off we went. They did't have any mid-sized Sonoma's or any of the pedals I wanted (Shimano A520s). They are in a warehouse in Edinburgh and won't be in until after the sale.

So Wiggle here I come, after I try them for size in Evans first.

I'm going through exactly the same process, replacing my olg Sidi Genius 5's, was going for the Genius 5.5's, thought sod it, I'm having the 6.6 with full carbon soles (in white, they look the works!)

Can get them for œ165 from Chain Reactions, tried a pair on the other day, felt a load lighter than my current ones

Nothing wrong with the other makes, but I just like me old ones so much can't fault them

I wear them for going to work (wearing them now). They seem well suited for commuting/leisure rides as the cleat is recessed and they look almost like normal shoes. They are comfortable but the sole is not very stiff.
