Bit of advice please??

Hi guys!

I have been doing about 20-25 miles per week for a few months now, any advice on how i can make my training more intense, with extra long summer hols coming up would like to make the most of it!

Or..anybody got any links to a training programme?

    Depends what you want to do really, I'd say forget intensity until you've increased your mileage. Most people recommend 10 per cent further a week max (or is it a month?). Most road races are at least 20-30 miles, if you want to do track then obviously work on sprinting instead of distance, but you've still got to get the base miles in to get the fitness.
    Basically ride your bike more, someone was bound to say it so I thought I'd get in first! I do 200+ a week and I'm still not as fit as I'd like to be [xx(]
  • Right okay...well seen as i am still doing my GCSE's i will try and get out on the bike more so an increase of 10% per week. Sounds pretty good...cheers [8D].

    Any other tips as to things that can make it all easier (e.g. tyre pressures[?]).

  • [:D] If you got out of bed earlier you could probably do 20 miles a day 4 days a week with rest days as well.
    Its OK everyone I can say it cos I'm his Dad!

    Week 1:
    2 x 15 mile cycle rides.
    1 x 20 mile cycle ride.


    Week 2:

    2 x 20 mile cycle rides.
    1 x 25 mile cycle ride.

    Week 3 & 4:

    2 x 25 mile cycle rides
    1 x 25 mile cycle rides on steep gradient.
    1 x 30 mile cycle ride (on the weekend).

    Week 5 & 6:

    2 x 25 mile cycle rides
    1 x 25 mile cycle rides on steep gradient.
    1 x 35 mile cycle ride (on the weekend).
    At least 1 night at the Gym

    Week 7 & 8:

    2 x 30 mile cycle rides
    1 x 30 mile cycle rides on steep gradient.
    1 x 40 mile cycle ride (on the weekend).

    Week 9 & 10:

    2 x 35 mile cycle rides
    1 x 35 mile cycle ride on steep gradient.
    2 x 45 mile cycle ride on consecutive days.

    Week 11:
    3 x 15 mile cycle rides.


    I use this in the 12 weeks leading up to an expedition.

  • Just to let you know...the training is going well...did 20 miles today and got caught in THE rain shower of all rain showers!!...was soaked right through (didnt have a coat). Oh well its only a bit of water!!

    On a more serious note, I met a guy from the Pembrokeshire velo club on Tuesday, is that the the only cycling club in your area?

  • Well guys...i am using the activity log on Everyday Cycling and i am happy to say i have progressed to 69 miles this week. [:D]
