Harsh but fair. Now maybe the decision-makers at Eurosport will take action?

  • To be fair, Martin Kelner's column is an amusing look at sport coverage on tv. I think he gently mocks dear old Duffers rather than 'dissing' him big style.

  • I thought it was quite funny but please tell me that Duffers isn't the main man for the Eurosport coverage of the TdF ?
    Surely that's David Harmon ?

I LOVED it during yesterday's last stage at the Dauphine, when he was wandering whether Cadel Evans had made it over the climb with the leaders, "I'm not sure if Cadel has made it over with this group, I can't see him anywhere" when, of course, the camera was indeed on Cadel descending with the leading group. Duffers - a loveable yet utterly frustrating commentator.

It got worse than that. In the last few kilos he was still wondering were Cadel was when he was clearly on screen putting in an attack.

And this is the rider which possibly the most distinctive riding style of anyone (especially on the climbs)

To be fair to Duffers he was probably confused to see Evbans actually attacking. Evans is my top tip for the rider least likely to get a suntan in the Tour this year

Spot on. I enjoyed reading it and the comments afterwards especially the bit about 'research' and 'The Guardian' being strangers!

And I enjoyed this quote from MontyD:

  • The sooner Duffield is retired, the better. I'm sure he's done a really good job for British cycling over the the years, but those years are over. He's now a liability for Eurosport.

  • Well thanks for that . I may have pointed out to you that you didn't need to start another thread on David Duffield but I'm not sure why that makes me a 'knobhead' .
Maybe you should relax a little bit , it's only a cycling forum .

He's probably done more for cycling than most, if not all hacks so I tend to cut him some slack. I read the Observer this weekend (or rather my mate read bits to me whilst I was driving back from the Polka Dot) and apparently some of the hacks have done the British TdF stage - but in two days !! What's the point ??
