Suicidal Cyclist

There is a chap who commutes along Jamaica Road and up Tooley street most days who I have decided must have a death wish.

Not only does he go through every red light (I don't want to get into a row about this, but he goes through them all), he has his brakes disconnected! He isn't riding a fixed either before you ask.

This morning I was riding in with my girlfriend and a set of lights went red so we stopped, and coincidentally were stopping other people from riding through the red lights too. He comes up behind us, mutters something and then rides on the wrong side of the road so that he can get through the lights!

It scares me how many bikes have disconnected or clearly useless brakes. You can usually spot them, the riders are the ones who stop by scraping their feet along the ground. I see between one and three of those per day.

I would either try to diplomatically have a word with him or report him to the police for his own, and others, safety.

Actually, I would probably do neither of those things but would definitely mean to!

    Is that right?

Oh God, maybe there's more than 2... does it have to be an even or odd number?

2 would be the average, but that doesn't mean he sees two everyday. Sometimes he sees 3 and sometimes 1 and on occassional days he may even see 2.

    Disconnected brakes,

Maybe that explains the nutter I seen the other day. I stopped at the lights at the top of Dundass Street, its a quite steep hill if anybody doesn't know it and a bike shot through the Red light causing traffic to skid. I freewheeled down to the next set of lights he was pedaling furiously, I pass him as he's swerving all over the road, stop at the the next set of lights and the same thing happened again. Came to a 3rd set of lights and guess what the same thing happened again but this time his way was blocked by cars so he decided to jump up on to the ped crossing and swerve off to another road on the opposite side of the street.

If I had a baby elephant, who would take it for walks?

    Natural selection.

Cyclists undertaking left-turning vehicles is my pet hate, and I mean cars that are indicating - and have indeed been indicating left while waiting at the lights - and starting to turn left. Astonishing.

You get alot of RLJ's on Jamaica Road. I was behind someone all the way from Greenwich this morning who constantly jumped the lights, I felt like telling him but thought he can learn the hard way.

i was following a MTB with a badly buckled back wheel,The rear brake was dis connected,A car pulled out on us & he performed a perfect emergency stop by standing up & jamming his foot behind the rear triangle, obviously a well rehearsed manouvre!!
