Hi All

Ok, I have just ordered a set of Ksyrium ES wheels ..... now, everyone I have spoken to in the flesh have said they think they are great wheels, light, stiff great looking etc, However they seem to get a bit of a slating on forums, Now I think this is down to the fact that people are more likely to post problems than general praise !

So, If you have these wheels and like them, make me feel better by bigging them up !!

I have a pair and so has my mate. No probs for either of us and they were SO much better than my previous Fulcrum 3s. The last time ES wheels were discussed on this Forum they got a slating from somebody who had not even had a pair.

The point of know how is to give information about which you are experienced to give not what you heard from a friend of a friend. I've just bought another pair for my new bike and would not have done that if i was not 100% satisfied with my existing ones.

I recently bought them and love them too, but I have had to send the front wheel back for a replacement (hopefully) as the axle does not spin as freely as the rear wheel axle. Apart from that minor problem, excellent wheels and they look the part!

I'd agree they're good and I have found them o be much stronger and easier to maintain than some DT RR1450s I bought at the same time which have been nothing but trouble.

Someone I know has broken a spoke (of course this can happen with any wheels) but has found it really hard to locate new spokes for it.

    Any suggestions?

  • Any Mavic retailer should be able to source a spoke for you, but if not then R J Chicken should be your next port of call. Te: 01582 873329

If they can't/won't help, then go straight to the UK Mavic Service Centre. Blokes name is Gary Blackett and he is incredibly friendly, helpful and efficient. Tel: 01256 408637. Might take a while to get through as he spends most of his time in the workshop, but leave a message and he will get back to you.

PS just sourced myself some Mavic ES wheels, should have them on Monday, I'll let you know how I get on.

    I've been Thamed !!
  • I've got them, much better than the Campag Eurus I had, which were also great wheels

Spokes are easy - look on ebay - usually 2-3 shops selling them @ œ2 - œ3.50 each

Fantastic wheels, really livened up my Madone, super stiff (even when out of saddle), reliable, lightweight and I have full confidence in them. Essential for the forthcoming effort in the Pyrenees.

Anyone got an accurate weight for them?
  • A listing on Weight Weenies has them at actual of 1528.9 g against a claimed 1485g. (without skewers)

The 'problem' with them seems to be a web based rumour.

Paul Hewitt stocks spokes. I carry 1 of each type inside the seat pin, just incase.

    Web based rumour not....
I've had mine 11 months, well twelve now as my rear has been back with PROBIKEKIT for 1 month now awaiting "response from Mavic" as I have the dreaded rim split in two places. The wheel have been used on a cannondale synapse and have covered only 2500 miles (including Etape 06). I checked the weight limits out before I purchased as I hover around 87 kilos. Up to the point of failure I was very happy with the wheels and had forgotten about them, which is a compliment of sorts in itself. When I noticed the splits I photographed them and then checked out the internet and there is a number of US Forums reporting similar failures. I had some OpenPro's some years ago and they did the same. Speaking to my local dealer he commented that because they have taken so much metal away between the spokes to get the weight down, it appears to have weakened the rim. Anyway, I am more concerned now that I have lost the wheel for 4 weeks, despite numerous e-mails and phone calls nothing seems to be happening. Probikekit are saying all the right things, but I would have hoped some Customer care might be forthcoming by now. I will keep you updated as and when anything happens, in the meantime keep checking!

Why didn't mavic also make them in Blue?
I'm sure sales would double. There would be a pair in my garage for a start.

no. no noticeable difference at all. ES are slightly lighter, but not really noticeable. defintely not worth upgrading unless the ES look is essential.

yes, 15g lighter according to sigma sports

maybe an improved hub, but hardly worth the extra 100œ for the set
  • everybody i know with them really likes them.

They look a little bit to blingy fir me, I prefer the Fulcrum R1 - any comparisons?
