Southend, Colchester Road Cycle Farcility. 1 foot wide cycle chicane with drain. And this was a good day; not obstructed by parked cars.

  • if it werent for the drain most bikes would be fine through there as they wont be squeezed by traffic

    i can see a problem for a recumbrent or a bike with a trailer perhaps...

    What I really like about the second picture is that it illustrates a good responsible cyclist with good lane position and not one but TWO vehicles which appear to have ridden on the pavement :D.

    PS just to make it clear I AM DEFINETELY NOT attempting to justify cycling on the pavement, Im pointing out the blinkered view of motorists towards cyclists in general.

    There is a distinct danger of a pedal fouling the kerbs. The recommended width of a bypass such as this is one metre.
