Ist off. I'm a Liverpool fan.

I've just read the original topic. I think that it became tasteless. If this had been a Man Uv Chelsea final, the Hisbrough tradegedy would never have risen its head and it would now all be over.

The blame can be leveled at fans, police and at organisers (for supplying so few tickets) Has anyone mentioned that there was no over crowding of the stands and there was no loss of life. That's the bottom line.
Unless anyone can think of anything more important than Life??

Liverpool FC + major cup final = references to Hillsborough and Heysel
Any city/person + major event = references to some event, possibly tragic
It sells newspapers/boosts viewing figures. It has always been thus. If I mention Pompeii, what do you think of - the Vesuvius eruption and that was 1,928 years ago. I admit that some may think of Frankie Howard!

Almost certainly tragic - it sticks in the memory a bit more than the fact that Liverpool was European City of Culture a few years ago.

When Hillsborough was a tragedy I happened to be living in Manchester. Well, you know what the mancs think of their scouser neighbours of course? Nevertheless, in my local newsagent the 'Scum' was a drug on the market for a long while after their infamous headline.

I guess time is a great healer, and now we can make use of the catastrophe to suit our own prejudices. IMO unruly football fans are usually from areas that are economically deprived so let us hope that Liverpool's spell as city of culture does something to boost its fortune.

My links with Liverpool are minimal: I've only been there a few times, e.g. to visit the maritime museum on the Albert Dock! The few people I met were helpful and friendly.

To maggot, it's not the fact that it's Liverpool involved, it's just common respct. we'd be saying the same if it were Man U, Chelsea, Bolton or Ackland & Stanley.

Take a quick look at the jokes on this forum. It is the official LFC forum, and contains gems about Peter Sutcliffe, disabled people, victims of death and destruction etc. So Scousers do laugh at everyone else, it's just we can't have a laugh about them.

Indeed in the forum, there is a whole section devoted to Hillsborough, as well as jokes about murdered women. Any explanations as to how this could be? I mean you have already told us that this sort of thing is unacceptable.

You just have to face it, Scousers are not poor little angels.

It wasn't having a laugh, it was slagging off dead people that I objected to, particularly because it was blaming them for summat they didn't do.
  • So, lets get this straight. It's fine to laugh at Peter Sutcliffes victims, but if anyone mentions Hillsborough then we are slagging off the dead. Could it not be seen that jokes about Sutcliffe are slagging off the dead?

You need to take a long hard at yourself/selves and realise that you are not all whiter than white, some blame lies at the door of the fans. What about the LFC fans who snatched tickets from children? I can't understand how all Liverpool are always blameless, it's mental. There are "un-desirable" elements in every crowd, you Scousers have to learn to look at yourselves sometimes. Unless you are seriously telling me that no Scousers are ever to blame for anything ever, and you're not are? Are you?

Stop being so bloody defensive. Think about it.

    Eh?
  • It happened in Athens a few weeks ago. There was a father on Radio5 reporting how some LFC fans got children to wave their tickets, then they snatched them from them and ran away, the father and uncle still had their tickets, but the son had his nicked. They ran up the queue doing it, one father caught one of the die-hard not to blame fans and gave him a hiding, and the fan did indeed come from jolly old Liverpool. Still it wasn't his fault oh no[:(!]

    So no honour there eh?

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. They must have found an impressionist to do the Scouser voice overs, and then got him to lie and make up the whole story, then got several other impressionists to do the same thing.

You really are totally blind to any Scouse blame aren't you?

  • Well after what happened to Boris Johnson, you can hardly blame Caborn for backing Liverpool. He was most unlikely to say, "Bloody right, I wouldn't want thousands of Scousers in my town smashing the place up and then blaming the local council" now was he?

The UEFA bloke has a point though, there were two lots of fans, the trouble though only came from one lot, surely you can't argue that point, or can you[;)]

To blame 'scousers' for the behaviour of some Liverpool fans is the relam of the weak minded.

For a start, being a Liverpool fan is no indicator of actually being from Liverpool.

Secondly, yes, some people who follow Liverpool are probably scumbags. As are some people who follow other teams. To extrapolate that to an argument that all or most Liverpool fans are scumbags requires a massive lack of thought.

It is like saying Hitler was a vegetarian, therefore all vegetarians are fascist dictators i.e. rubbish.

I am sure that SOME Liverpool fans do laugh about the disabled and murdered people. This is not because they are scousers but because they are very unpleasant people who have no empathy for others.

Maggot, as far as your quote below

'But to say that no-one should be allowed to knock, make fun or say ANYTHING about what happened just about proves the Scouser "victim mentality".'

I think the fact that you appear to think 'making fun' of the dead is acceptable says more about you than it does about scousers victimhood.
