Post race packing?

Okay, so a couple of weekends ago I did my first triathlon (a sprint) and all went well.

I came back to the car and put my bike in: lay seats flat --> put bike in car --> drive off.

Then I was noticed that 4 sets of people around me were letting down their tyres! [:0]

Are there any logical reasons for not transporting inflated tyres (planes are understandable)?

Or reversing that - any logical reasons for deflating them?

Was it a hot day ? If you left the wheels in the car in the sunlight - then you may blow a tube that way.

I've seen it happen on a hot alpine hairpin. Waiting for the tour and basking in the sun, and then a loud bang. We all laughed as we knew some poor sods tyre had gone.

And then we all sheepishly wandered over to the bikes to make sure it wasnt ours !
