4 minutes faster - nearly!

Well, today I did the Charlotteville CC25 after a pretty awful week leading up to it. I was meant to be doing a club 25 on wednesday, but that got cancelled due to lack of watches and marshalls and whatever.
Oh yes, and it was double booked with the NHRC 10 champs, so I decided to do this instead. I did a lousy time, and felt really underpowered, so when I read steve100miler's thread, I was thinking, try 1.5 minutes slower! That's where I was.
So thursday I did a 1hr TT at 95% in the lanes where I live, in an attempt to get my leg-power-memory back, which seemed to help. Rested friday, and was thinking I'll be happy to go under the hour, y'know? just get that bit done at least!
So today I eat fresh pineapple and bananas with yogurt for breakfast, with some crumbled digestives also, and that was nice, with plenty of time to get everything ready. Get to the HQ, sign on etc, and go to a quiet layby to get ready and warm-up.
Head off to the start with 5 minutes to spare when I get there and have a quick but careful stretch. Then I'm off - a bit quick I'm thinking, but the voices are telling me otherwise[:D].
I didn't really let off, although I took the climbs fairly slowly, and will admit to having 1% left in the tank for a 'kind of' sprint over the line.
I had no idea of my time, until I got to the HQ, where I was happy to find out that I'd done a 56:21!!!.
Not bad for the first open 25 of the season[8D], target hit with the first arrow[:D].
Dr Hutch won with a 48:36, 2nd Alex Dowsett(nice bloke[:)]) with a longer 48, and Ben Instone with a 50.
I was concerned that Mike W had not made it, as I have been looking forward to meeting up with him, another time hopefully?

Happy? Me? Just a bit[:D][:D][:D]

Well done Andy. It was on the cards though after your 10's and your 50, though, don't you think? [;)]

Not sure whether to take the wink/smile icon as a wind-up message or not[8)].
I have a problems getting under the hour(until now), and psychologically this can make it more of a challenge than it actually is. My 10 times have been good enough for 2 seasons for sub hr times, but again until now they've eluded me. I also thought that, given my 10 and 50 improvements this season, that a 58 would be more of a realistic time than what it turned out to be.

Gaterz, I did consider retiring[;)], with regard to 95%, I use a power meter, so I did that session at 95% of what I can usually hold for a 25TT under race conditions.

The Merckx Diaries On my penultimate lap I took turns with the only cyclist I know that's been lapped in a race by a young Lance Armstrong.

Well done Andy, that'd great. Means I can't tease you now about going under the hour. Also looks like you're on target for going under on 50 as well.

I've lowered my proper 25 pb to 58:30 as well, I don't know if that's quick enough to make a sub 2hr 50 possible.

thats awesome Andy - but you have worked so hard to achieve it. Did you collect your power data for the run?

congratulations. and its early days too.

    Thanks Mark.
The power profile shows an average of just 250watts. This is after adjusting my stem up 2 notches after low power output earlier in the week. It is still maybe 1" lower than before this season, plus my arm-rests are a bit narrower as mentioned in a previous thread. I'm not adopting the hunch(bringing shoulders up towards ears/head in), as this started to give me headaches, even though it's worth potentially 20secs/10miles. Only other difference was that I used a head fairing, which has a significantly smaller f/a than the safety aero lids.
The best power/time I managed last year, same course, no wind was 240w/1:08.
Oh yeah, one other thing RAB's were completely clear this year, cant remember last year.
