Yes it was very close. I removed the sound as I muttered a few choice words at the time[:0].

I managed to catch up with the bus so I could note the bus number, registration and the route number. So a wee e-mail was sent to the bus company (with a link to the video).
I am waiting for them to respond......

It was on a tripod bungeed to the rear rack and at full stretch. About 75cm off the side of the bike ;-)

It took about 9 ascents over two evenings to get all the footage, then a couple of hours to piece it together.

Thought I'd have a go at filming my commute too. 6 Mile commute from North London to the centre (it's sped up to save time). Takes in such tourist attractions as Nelsons Column and Buck house.

This is a bit old now, last summer, and filmed with my digicamera zip tied to the bars (it was a bit wobbly, so I was going fairly slowly and steadying it with one hand).

Since then, I found a way of attaching the camera to the clamp bit of a tripod, and attaching that to the bars, which was more secure. Now the days are getting lighter, I must go out and get some more footage...

I do hanker after a helmetcam, but the longer I hanker, the cheaper they'll get...

Got my camera and SD card the other day, haven't had chance to use it yet, as I have been working nights. BTW, are these cameras any good at filming in the night with well lit street lights? Also, how rainproof are they?

This is my commute through south London (only about 5.5 miles), filmed with an Oregon Scientific ATC2K camera mounted on the handlerbars (not helmet!), and run through a VirtualDub deshaker filter before dropping into Youtube (and then speeded up by a factor of four, I don't cycle that fast!)

Since it was a sunny day, some of the shadowed areas are rather dark.

I've tried filming at night, but the quality is rather poor, you only really see the vehicle lights and occasionally the road on very well lit parts of the route.

The "wobble" effect is due to what is in effect a Rolling Shutter, ie the image is read off of the camera sensor even if the camera is moving. There is an option in the deshaker filter to remove this effect, and I think the filter seems to help a little, although I haven't done extensive comparisons. The effect can still be visible, especially on long vertical lines, like the backs of double deckers etc.

It depends on what you want. If you prize quality footage and sound, then go for a proper bullet camera plugged into a DV camera, or one better still and find a way to mount a DV camera on your bike/helmet like Lucas Brunelle does. If you're after convenience and using it all the time, it might be better to get an ATC-2000 like many of us have. The best thing about the ATC 2000 is that there are no wires, just fire it up and go, repeatedly.
