I know some guys from the 'Cru and have ridden with them before. Nice bunch, not too serious and up for a few larks too (mostly hardtails)!
You might also want to contact the Epping Forest Epics (not as scary as that sounds) as they do Saturday and Sunday rides from the South end of the forest (South Woodford - Central line) up to High Beach and back and do 20-25 mile rides through loads of twisty singletrack (mostly ride FS).
Nice bunch, mix of ages and gender, ride with the slowest rider so you won't get left behind (if you are extra slow, Mick will ride with you and let the rest go ahead) and also do evening/night rides in the summer during the week.
I used to ride most weekends with them but less now I've moved away.
If you are Elite racer standard (or like to think that you are) you could even hook up with the very, er, 'modest' VDT and the Epping Forest MTB Club (correct name?) but if you are too slow for their 'blistering' pace or have a mechanical, be prepared to be left on your own somewhere you don't know without a seconds' hesitation.
VDT is still the only member of this forum that I think is a total *******. I thought he was a wind up at first as I've never known anyone be so far up his own backside.
So the 'Cru or the Epics would be your best bet! Both would be happy to show you around. Also some other members ride outside of an organised group and they may well be in touch offering their help.
Hope that this helps.

Hi jcook1,I have been riding with the cru since xmas time some thursdays but most sundays.Dont let the name put you off,you wont find a better bunch anywhere.Skills and abilities are varied but it dont matter at all.You wanna ride your be welcomed. If anybody gets left at anytime,we all just stop and wait so dont worry if your slow.If your fast well you will have to wait because you wont know where to go lol.If you fancy let me know, more the merrier.
PS- mostly ST but there are stop offs for jumps and luke will show off his usual trials skills whenever he gets the chance. His bike seems stuck to him the flash git[:D]

Good bunch are the Cru, with a good spread of skills as ninja said.
They really do stop and wait. Hell, some even have whistles so I can find 'em when I get lost...again...and again....and again... [:D]

Sadly not, as most of the line is 'deep level', and bikes are considered to be a hazard in case of an emergency requiring evacuation.
Folding bikes are allowable.
You can take your bike on the central line from Leyton onwards though.
It's a sod, as I will be in London on Saturday with my bike, and need to get to Epping afterwards, and I don't fancy riding all the way.
So i'll ride to Leyton then tube it to Loughton for a bit of a play.
Wonder if you could get away with it by taking teh wheels off. [?]
Whereabouts in Barking are you?

Used to live in Barking but now in Chadwell Heath. I dont drive so was trying to find the best way to get there?

Well, from Chad Heath, i'd ride to Newbury Park, then get the tube from there to South Woodford.
That stretch of the tube is fine with bikes.
You can ride from Chadders to Newbury Park in no time, I used to.

Thanks. Its only down the road so that would be no problem.
If the weathers ok i may pop down there this sunday as i dont think i havce any thing else on.

Yeah ride to newbury park and you can get the tube although that can sometimes be a sod on a Sunday morning.
You'll need to get a Woodford via Hainualt train. The best station for easy access to the forest is Loughton. From loughton station all you need to do is ride straight up station road then cross the highstreet into forest road and you'll see the forest straight up ahead.
