Logged this question on 'Buying' section but maybe should go here. Currently running 100mm travel RST forks on my Hardrock can i go to smaller travel 80mm without a negative effect on ride handling and warranty? Reason being looking at an upgrade to my fork but they are 80mm travel sids.

it will steepen the head angle by about 1 degree and make the handling twitchy.
Why would you want Sids? they leak and are as flexy as. only really good for a race betweeen services and the Hardrock is not a race frame.

You'd save more weight by getting a new frame, the hardrock is 5lbs plus.

Got my HR in November 06 through R2W so changing frame is not an option, assuming the suggestion of frame change was not done tongue in cheek. Realised that i haven't got the lightest of frames hence my dieting since november (now down to 3 stone!) but looking to upgrade and trim some weight at the same time. Thanks for input SS.0

they would be a step up from the rebas but are not really worth it.
yes the tora is not the lightest but it is a good fork that does not really have any vices. the SID on the other hand........ i have known people finish a race with oil pouring out of the seals. get them serviced before the next race just for the same to happen. when asked why? "cause they are light" is the normal reply and that is about the only thing that they are but so is a carbon ridged fork.
if you are wanting to upgrade the tora then leave it it the winter and get a reba.

Its just a strange combo, a tough heavy frame like the Hardrock paired with a superlight XC race fork! The RST isnt that heavy, but will certainly be worth while upgrading.

I'm not liking all this SID bashing [:(]
Surely they ain't that bad......? I knew they were a bit flexy but I don't hit the jumps/drops etc. just good ol' XC. (I got some on order BTW) [:I]

For pure XC, they are a light choice. You may be able to put up with the flex.
