Shimano bottom bracket hell

What's with this Shimano bottom bracket tool!? It's only got about 2mm of purchase which is not enough to put any kind of hand pressure before the tool slips out of the bottom bracket cover.
The Shimano bottom bracket tool I'm talking about is the one that looks like a cookie cutter and is used in conjunction with a monkey wrench.
To be fair though I think the problem is the b/b covers which don't have a deep enough groove to insert the tool in more than 2mm!
My bike manual says to only apply gentle pressure to undo the b/b covers - that's a joke! These covers are stuck fast. D- to the Muppet who designed these covers![:(!]

First (and every time TBH) I use it I wish I'd bought one of these. As the BB on my hardrock isn't a hollow jobby.
Although I just use a long bolt with my standard BB tool instead to keep it in place.

he best thing i've found is to give yourself a lot of leverage with a very long tool so you don't need to apply much force, then you can undo with one hand and hold the tool on with the other.

I ended up using an impact driver on mine just to get it moving. The tool was just eating bits out of the old BB with a 3' lever bar so I figured I had nothing to lose. On a side note, impact resistant sockets should alwayss be used even if I don't.0

Just changed the wife's bike BB to external bearings and hollowtech crank. I have a hardened BB removal tool and use it with a 3ft torque wrench to remove, then threw BB it in the bin (ISIS cak)!
Switch to external bearings, much easier to remove, hollowtech cranks can be fitted in a few mins and easy to remove.
