Guys
The gear indicator on my shifter (9 spd cassette) packed up some time ago. Although its not vital I was wondering if anyone else had come across this problem and successfully taken it apart (without bits exploding everywhere!)and managed to fix it?
Any advice greatly appreciated.

I just noticed (this morning) that my the indicator on my x9 had stopped.
The indicator on the X9 looks quite simple from the instructions on:
http://bb.nsmb.com/archive/index.php/t-47538.html
The quote from that page says "Note that the gear indicator is a plastic band with notches in it. Simple, effective, and almost indestructable"
I'm going to have a look tonight, yours may be similar but I'm not sure.

I had to take my SRAM Attack shifter apart to fix the same problem (I was fiddling with it before I fitted it!)
Quite easy to do & nothing exploded.
I think that the X7 should be very similar to fix.

yeah its simple, the big spring can fly out but its simple to see where it goes back
You have to make the the paper/plastic with the grooves on is in the corresct posistion and its all good

Cheers guys, I'll give it a go (another excuse to get out in the garage and mess about with the bike [:D]).
Traffic, thanks again for the step by step guide.

Hi guys,
On mine the "paper/plastic with the grooves on" had actually broken. I sellotaped it back together and it works a treat its very important to know what gear your in
