OK so I know you lot are not camera specialists...
But I am looking to buy a new camera, I think I have narrowed the choice down to 2:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IXUS-Digi ... 97&sr=1-20
and
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-DSC-N2-Dig ... 897&sr=1-9
I want it to take nice pictures, alot like you guys are doing at the moment, but I also want a really good point and shoot facility for when I can not be asked.
Any help would be dearly appriciated.

The ixus is the better camera but can i also suggest you look at the Fuji F31fd and the Panasonic Lumix

the diff being Mpix.. the lumix is a cracking camera and right in your price range.. also checkout the zoom range.

See I had a sony p200, and I found when ever the light was not really bright it always blurred the pic, I know this is because i was moving at the time but i had a p120 and it never did that, so i am hesitant about getting the sony, is the fuji one the one you have?

Well I have just bought http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-IXUS-Digi ... 97&sr=1-20, with a 2gb extrem card (20mb/s) save speed, with free next day delivery which I didn't think was to bad.

The faster card won't make a difference to the speed with a compact. It only has an effect when shooting lots of large RAW files in long bursts on DSLRs.

Oh well it was only œ18 which i thought was reasonable for a 2gb one. Now all I have to do is learn is how to use it.
Then start taking lots of photos.

It's always good to have a quicker card anyway as you might need it in the future. Re: learning how to use it...
I'd suggest take the card out of the packaging and put it in the camera [;)]
