Lyke Wake Walk/Ride?
Hiya
A mate of mine has done the Lyte Wake Walk (North Yorkshire Moors) some years back, now he has come up with the idea of riding it.
I've never done it so I have a few questions.
Is it legal? (Bikes)
What is it like to bike it?
How long is it?
Would it be a "good" ride, or just boring?
Any other suggestions?

The Lyke wake has no defined route, its just from Codbeck car park to Whitby. Therefore it is rideable as you can pick the route yourself. Basically to ride that way without doing too much road you need to head south of Danby, as there are few east heading bridleways north of Danby.

Just stay more than half a mile from the car parks then. You never get walkers going much further than that. Lazy bug*ers.
The key to the lyke wake is to use the old railway line between bloworth crossing and the lion inn. You will probably need to walk up Carr Ridge, as theres no ridable way upto that part of the moors unless you go well south of Chop Gate.
For this ride i'd go from Codbeck up towards the bilsdale transmitter mast, from here i'd head to Carlton Bank, past the Lord Stones Cafe and take the woods level track to Clay Bank. Up Carr Ride then follow the cleveland way to Bloworth then onto the Lion Inn. From here i'd head to Glaisdale via the Bridleways at the head of Rosedale and using Glaisdale Rigg. I'd then head South West up out of Glaisdale on road / tracks and then take the old railway tracks into Whitby.
