Hope Mini question

Hi again,
I have noticed that the front disc brake on my bike makes a kind of clicking noise when applied during riding. At the minute I have only noticed it whilst out on a trail and not when riding slow on the road. The rear brake has not shown this at all.

I don't know if it has something to do with heat but it's starting to concern me a little now..!

I have Hope Mini brakes which are pre 2007 (the black and gold ones).

Cheers

Does it happen at a particular point on the disc or throughout the whole rotation? It might be a slightly bent disc catching on the caliper unit or something to that effect. Have you checked the discs are true? That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

  • Is it a repeated click or just one when you put the brakes on? Could be the pad travel slightly back in the calliper when you brake they get pushed forward and click against the calliper body. Or could be something different, have you looked at the lever?

It's when I apply the brake and I have notived it more when the brake has warmed up during use on the trail. I thought it must have something to do with heat because it's only when the brake is used and worked.

The sound is like a clicky/bubbly noise which is quite difficult to describe.

Any other time it seems ok. I have checked alignment of the caliper, cleaned the pistons and generally checked the whole brake set up, but when used hard, this noise appears and only on the front brake.

The only difference to the front is a 180mm disc compared to the 160mm rear. I do use the front more for hard braking on fast straight sections too..?

Is the noise continous when braking or once every wheel revolution?

If 1 to 4 times a rev, then the pads could be catching on the disk support arms. Do the pads extend off of the disk braking area

If continous then its probably the drill holes setting up a small vibration (try changing the tension in your mounting bolts)

    Ok,
Went and did 32k at Llandegla yesterday and the front brake still has this clicky noise which is constant when applying the brake. I did think if it had anything to do with the drilled holes but why would this not happen on the rear.

I don't really feel any loss of performance from it..!

What do you mean by loosening off the bolt tension..?

    Cheers
