Cycling Break in the Canaries for next Winter - any suggestions please?

Hi all,

I came across the Cycling Lodge in the Pyrenees from a recent thread in this section thanks to mrb123 and cyclinggirl! Now booked for this August and looking to see if anyone has any recommendations for next Jan / FeB 2026 please!

I wondered if anyone could give some advice for a decent place to stay in as a cycling base for either next January or February. I've got a lot more flexibility with my work and would like to take a break in either January or Feb 2026.

Looking at something around 10 days for me and my wife, who also cycles, in one of the Canary Islands. To date I have been put off by some of the really massive hotels that are advertised. I have never been before so any suggestions gratefully received.

We prefer quieter establishments, are happy in either a hotel or a self-catering establishment/ AirBnB ( I'm coeliac so sometimes self-catering is easier) and have flexibility on whether hiring bikes or taking or own. Again don't mind doing our own routes via gpx files, but I did a recent stay in Spain which was guided and that was great particularly in a new area. (This was with Escapar Cycling in Ontinyent where there are some fantastic traffic free roads if anyone fancies Spain).

Love to get out early and then have a bit of chill later in the afternoon.

Would love to get something booked to look forward to next winter. Any suggestions/ thoughts would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!

Been to GC twice and Tenerife once over the last 3 years, all in Feb.

Personally prefer the cycling in GC. Tenerife is incredible up on Teide but found the roads lower down far too busy.

On GC, Maspalomas is as good a base as any. Not the most attractive place but has a lot going for it.

Maspalomas Spa and Suites was the better of the two hotels we stayed at. It's fairly small and adults only. They're all laid out in individual little bungalow rooms over there so feel quite private.

Freemotion are a safe bet for bike hire. They have 3 outlets in Maspalomas area, the little one in the Dunas hotel being nearest to that hotel. Plenty of route information on their website - check out where they take the guided rides.

Feel free to PM me if you want any more info.

Thank you again mrb! this is exactly the sort of info I was looking for! I’ll do some research on this and thank you for the offer of a PM too.

Was going to say that from my research GC seemed to be the best option but mrb covered it, and has personal experience.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Sadly you won't be able to report back here for much longer!

Have a great time at the Cycling Lodge.

Just about to register on CycleChat which seems to be the place where a Few Bike Radar Forumers are heading- see you over there and hopefully any further suggestions for places to stay! Thanks again! ( Have taken a screenshot of the suggestion in case everything disappears!
