It's downside is that it's a bloody long way away.

It's upside is that it is quiet because it's a bloody long way away.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Friend of mine (from n island) puts it this way - The south island is a long way from the north island, the north island is a long way from Australia. Australia is a long way from everywhere else.

Never forget (within Europe) most people are theoretically less than 3 hours away from La Scala, La Sagrada Familia, the Algarve, the Greek Islands, the Alps, the Fjords, the Pyrenees, the Scottish Highlands, Vienna, Salzburg, Prague, Bruges, Stockholm, Amsterdam etc etc. I couldn't live in NZ.

Those ^ Landscapes (apart from looking a lot like Wales/Scotland) are lovely. Those touristy places look contrived.

To put it into perspective, NZ is the size of the UK with the population of Scotland. Lovely!

As long as you prefer outdoors to culture and history.

    Great pics VS! Very schemic.

I have some relatives that live in N Island. We went to stay with my Aunt in Auckland in 1981. Here neighbours had twin sons that were between me and Witch-Sister so we had a great time Kyaking around Aukland Basin and the little tributaries. Also hiring Tandem bikes near the harbour and cycling with witch-sister on the back. She's very much a non cyclist!

Later we went up near Whangarei to a cousins farm then onto Bay of Islands to another Cousin.

Lovely places. Bet its changed a lot in 44 years!!

    Sometimes. Maybe. Possibly.

Always said I go till my evil sister moved out there. She's in Waimauko on the north island. She used to have a place that went straight onto the beach till she split with her ex. Luckily she can't come back. 😌😆🥳

Too many bikes according to Mrs O.
  • Probably a fair bit, especially round Auckland , most of the population increase has been around there, towns have spread etc.

  • Most non scenery stuff is either Maori or related to old mining/railway/transport. Lots of museums of that sort of stuff. Lots of old/classic cars on the road as they don't rust quickly here.
