Crazy Question - Plastic Bleed Tube Size

Apologies - this seems a crazy question to ask. I've reads lots and lots of web pages and got tons of information but I'm still not 100% certain. I want to buy some longer plastic tube to bleed my Shimano hydraulic brakes. (1st bike has ultegra 6800 11 sp and the 2nd 105 12 sp). It seems what I need is tubing with a 6mm internal diameter but I've just read somebody using 3mm tubing. I cannot determine whether the caliper nipples are the same across ranges or types (road/mbt). Any advice appreciated.

Your 12 speed will have the new lock in type for the hose to bleed the new style ,the old ones you can pretty much use anything upto 6 mm as it will stretch over for the old style .pic below of both types

No worries! For Shimano brakes, you’ll usually need 6mm tubing for bleeding. 3mm might work, but it’s a tight fit. Caliper nipples are usually the same for road and MTB, but double-check your model just in case.

When using smaller tubes to bleed your brakes it helps if you warm the tube up in hot water first, then push over the nipple. But there are some more flexible tubes you don't have to do it to.
