    its a thread for people watching the WC that specifically talks about games minute by minute rather than a thread discussing games within the WC on a minute by minute basis so as games in the WC are being discussed on a minute by minute basis rather than the WC and games being played in itbbeing discussed it needs a spoiler title.

    pleasantly surprised how well England have started. Nice blend of youth and experience. Not interested in “It’s coming home’ nonsense, just enjoying the performance. Is that ok?

    I know the offside rule changes all the time but how is a player not offside when he is behind the final defender and runs across the eye line of the keeper just as a shot is coming in?

    Yeah but he needs to know that not moving before the opponent shoots only applies to penalties.

    Iran aren't mugs, England are just several levels above them in terms of the technical ability of our players, tactics and coaching. For all the usual rubbish about Southgate that your average England fan spouts, he knows his players and his tournament record is excellent. He has an outstanding group of young players, some very good experience and lots of attacking options. When they play with this attacking freedom and intent (regardless of opposition) England are objectively one of the 3 or 4 best teams in international football.

    How many were added on last night? This has the whiff of something FIFA have told the referees. They do tend to do something at every tournament to make sure no one knows the rules any more.

    That’s crazy. I hate shirt pulling but if you give that then every corner or free kick is a penalty.
