Shimano/SRAM 11 speed compatibility

I know 10 speed was cross compatible, is this still the case for 11 speed? Or in other words, having a Shimano 11sp at the moment, could I just buy a second hand pair of 11 speed Etap levers + Etap rear derailleur (I am on 1x) and it would all magically work?

Even cheaper just buy the blippers and use SS brake levers.

    Excellent!
I was looking at the 12 speed stuff, but it looks like a complete nightmare... 2 different types of freehub, limited choice of very expensive cassettes... if I can retain the rest of the drivetrain, that would be more doable. I like the simplicity of ETap (never tried it though)

Not sure about those things... I'll see if I can find a right shifter only... plenty of left only on Ebay... I guess the right are more in demand

Neither of those would work. Blips without levers need a blipbox which aren't cheap, and it needs both left and right levers as the right hand shifts up and the left hand shifts down.

If anyone has a rear mech + 11sp mechanical Etap shifters to dispose of, let me know...

    ETAP isn't mechanical, sadly

I mean mechanical brakes as in non-hydraulic

I guess the bottleneck is that I seem to gather 11 speed only came in the spendy RED version... I was hoping Force existed too, but it seems Force is only 12 speed... might be difficult to source RED second hand at a decent price

The 12 speed shifters can operate an 11 speed rear mech as of a recent firmware update: https://cyclingtips.com/2021/11/sram-introduces-backward-compatibility-for-11-speed-etap-users/

I may be selling some 11 speed Red kit soon. I'm planning to sell it all together if I can, with hydro shifters and a front mech, but if that doesn't fly I could let you know if I'm selling the rear mech alone at some point.

Yep... I was hoping that only needing 2 parts it would make it realistic, but it ain't... oh well

    starbike still ship to uk

fww over the last year i've had some excellent results on >135gbp values as the uk import rules weren't applied, no vat/duty/fees, i.e. low starting price, no de vat, no uk vat, it may well be the only known brexit benefit

obviously a lottery, but even with the duty/vat/fees it still would have been cheaper than uk pricing

I have 11s Etap and sometimes use it with a Shimano cassette so that definitely works.

Etap 11s was always 2x so I'm unsure if the Rd works without the fd. As I believe the Rd is the master it may well do.

I have a gear readout on my Bolt computer and sometimes when I set off the setting for the FD is n/a implying it hasn't woken up so may as well not be there. As soon as I shift the fd it shows the correct gear.

As mentioned earlier you will need both shifters to change up and down.

The new replacement Rd derived from 12s AXS to work as 11s is very unfortunately £500.

I will say though that Etap works very well and is reliable. 5 years and 21000 miles with the original batteries.

One further point is that many of the 2nd hand Etap RDs for sale are not the WiFi versions which could limit your cassette range.
The WiFi easily copes with 11-34. Not sure what the other rd range is.
