Shimano RS510 Crankset v R7000 Crankset

Apart from weight what are the disadvantages of the non series RS510 v the R7000?

It's not for a best bike so I'm not particularly bothered abut appearance etc more concerned with cost & whether I can use my 4iiii PM with it (which I believe I can).

I can get the RS510 £40 cheaper than the R7000 in my crank length & chainring combo so I'm tempted to go for the cheaper option provided it's reasonably on a par with R7000 in terms of shifting performance etc.

The RS510 crankset certainly isn't one for @daniel_b 's weight weenie project, without googling it's something like ~200g heavier IIRC, yet the r8000 crankset is only ~20g lighter than the r7000.

I nearly bought an rs510 from Merlin ~18 months ago to replace the 5800 crankset on my Cube, but like you I have a 4iiii and I wasn't convinced it would fit. I ended up buying a 34t and 50t set of 6800 rings that fit the 5800 cranks because it was a lot cheaper than sourcing a r7000 crankset at the time (~£85 vs ~£150).

Ironically, those 6800 rings are still in the spares box and some places like PBK have started doing r7000 cranksets again for ~£120, but currently OOS again for some common ring/length combos.

And don't forget your https://www.topcashback.co.uk/probikekit/ little extra discount.

Essentially it's £89.99 v £124.99 so from a cost point of view it's a no brainer & I'm not bothered about the extra weight TBH.

Doing some Googling it seems the 4iiii does fit:

Interested to hear if anyone has actually used a RS510 & what if any noticeable differences there are from the R7000.
