Best way to repair the toes on a pair of overshoes?

I have a pair of Endura Luminite II overshoes which have served me very well over the past few years, but general use has left the toe sections with a hole in each and the edge fraying. I saw in a product review that someone had stitched on some Vibram thin rubber to the toe section, thus repairing it and also making it much stronger no doubt. I've been looking for Vibram repair rubber but can't seem to find any to buy (I only need a couple of small patches really, not a huge sheet).
Has anyone done this or know where I can get such repair parts? I'm planning a trip to my local shoe repair shop in town soon but I'm not holding out much hope that they'll be willing to take it on. Also, such a repair would have to be cheap enough not to be negated by the price of a new pair of overshoes (about 35 quid).
I use them on flat touring-style pedals (without toe clips), don't do much walking in them but occasionally have to to get over tricky obstacles if I'm riding the local trails.

I like that idea very much.. one could even go a step further and use a section of worn out MTB tyre.photonic69 said:Old inner tube and contact adhesive?
I'll have to look up neoprene repair patches but honestly I'd rather beef them up than just replace with the same weak material.0 -
I trimmed a piece of gorilla tape (it's very much like duct tape). Basic and probably won't last very long but it's holding up for now... I really like the inner tube idea.Aspire not to have more, but to be more.0

Just get a new pair stop being tight, I am sure you can pickup on ebay for around £20-£35.So Far!0

treat them as disposable and get rid when they start to fall apart. Can often find something on ebay

If they are neoprene, Black Witch wetsuit repair glue works wonders.0
