    Thanks to those of you who offered advice. I didn't realise that wing nuts were such a cause of friction....

    FYI, I bought a set of wing nuts from a shop in the UK and will get them brought over. It's a requirement of the local train service that the front wheel is removed from the bike for transport, so this will make it easier.

    To address some of the understandable comments - Despite the fact that HK is not particularly cycle-friendly, I have only ever had one puncture here in over 10 years of riding - the roads/bike paths are generally very clear. Hence, I don't carry spares for rides of less than an hour. If any problem occurs I get to a train station or get into a taxi.
