I Cant remember if I've asked this already and can't find it if I have so...

Wife has a Bianchi She and it currently has some cheapo 9spd Sora shifters which apart from looking tatty having the cables coming out of the sides and that annoying down shift button don't seem to work that well.

Hub etc is 9spd so without going to the expense of an almost complete groupset are there any decent 9spd sifters out there still?

Or... will the hub be ten speed with a spacer and I can get new shifters, cassette and derailleur?
Advocate of disc brakes.

  • The current Sora R3000 shifters have solved both those issues and at a glance look and function the same as the more expensive groupsets.

If the hub currently has a 9 speed Shimano cassette it will definitely take a 10 speed one. So Tiagra 4700 shifters, cassette, chain and mechs. So nearly a full groupset.

Or scour Ebay for some used or NOS 5700 10 speed shifters and they'll work with the existing rear mech so you only need 10 speed chain and cassette.
  • What, the sora mech will do 9 & 10 speed? That sounds a bit odd?

The Sora mech will work with any 10 speed shifter except the new Tiagra 4700, which annoyingly has a different cable pull.

I've just noticed you've titled your thread 9 spd shiters :D

The R3000 shifters are pretty decent. Its either these or find old Ultergra shifters.

Actually you could use 10 speed 105 shifters with a a 10 speed cassette. You can keep your mechs. There you go. You only even need to change the right hand shifter to begin with although that would look a bit odd.

Shiftmate might help you match some 10 or 11 speed shifters to a 9 speed group.
